Last 25 December premiered on the Disney platform + the new pixar movie, Soul. Tape, which represents the twenty-third collaboration of the study with the American giant, It is the first to be released entirely in service on demand due to the impossibility of releasing it in style in cinemas due to the impediment of the global pandemic that we continue to experience today.
Maybe because of the year we've been, added the effect of these dates -those responsible knew very well what they were doing-, the effect of the film has multiplied and that is why its inspiring message has left such a good taste in the mouths of all the lucky ones who have already seen it.
A strategy seen before
As happened with Inside Out (2015), the creators of that story explain something abstract through allegorical representations in the form of a doll. If on the first occasion human emotions, as joy or sadness, were personified through a giggling girl and a dejected middle-aged woman, en 2020 creatives have dared with something more metaphysical like the formation of souls and human personalities. Take it now. Eso sí, unlike its predecessor, this time a representation has been chosen that chooses to homogenize all souls – after all, they are to be molded – without especially differentiating them from each other, except for the two protagonists, Clear.
On the one hand, meets Joe Gardner, a frustrated music teacher who fights tirelessly to catch his dream – to become a jazz musician – and, on the other hand,,es,I am not surprised because in my personal and professional life I am quite moderate and I am willing to listen to what "the opposite side" has to say whenever it is constructive,,es,But I can injustices and untimely comments,,es,And how I was emotionally involved in all these discussions,,es,I decided that the best thing is that I never dedicate myself professionally to cover the political sphere,,es,although you find it exciting,,es,I'm not bellicose and,,es,Regrettably,,es, 22, a soul disenchanted with the theory of what it is to live, who does not find his place in the world. Both represent universally known archetypes: the idealist who perseveres in search of his vocation and the social misfit who finds nothing to motivate him in life, but with the twist that he hasn't even started living it yet. And that's the great thing about this story..
Soul: evocative to say enough
Every Pixar movie has a message., and this is the most universal message of all: The meaning of life. How many times have we thought about our expectations and the frustration of ignoring that inner voice that tells us that we are not doing what we came into this world for?! In most cases, listening to that inner voice has been able to bring about a change for the better in someone's existence. But at the same time, How many times also the self-imposed feeling of what is personal fulfillment does not let us realize that we already have enough to be truly happy??
Throughout the footage, these existentialist reflections are repeated over and over again that test not only Joe, but also the viewer. Whether it's a conversation with the hairdresser of all life or a post-bolo chat with your idol, or even the very delicate conversation with a mother about the future serve as an excuse for the germ of this idea to gradually penetrate the viewer's psyche. And this process is simply delicious.
Soul: it's worth seeing?
Absolutely yes. Since the Disney castle appears in the already mythical intro at the beginning of each movie, you begin to enjoy all the surprises and humor in abundance that our friends at Pixar have prepared for us. That intelligent humor without pretensions that manages to reach everyone due to its simplicity, and that, Nevertheless, retains the subtlety of the elaborate joke that makes it perceived as a quality product.
The animation of the story is a art that they have been perfecting for decades in the studio and that is confirmed by the brilliant decision to design the Jerrys – multiple representations of the cosmos that keep the souls as superior entities that they are – in the form of doodles “to adapt to the finite consciousness of the Humans", away from any religious assignment. The easy or obvious thing would have been to draw angels or deities, and instead of that, have been aseptically agnostic. As agnostic as you can be on the basis of soul acceptance, but that's exactly what's good: that is not offensive to believers or cheesy to non-believers.
with all that said, for its originality, its freshness, and the current and timeless nature of its message –especially in the circumstances in which we have had to live as a human society–, probably Soul be the best movie 2020.
